What is a Life for?

What are you doing right now?

That is what a life is for.

And if it isn't "good enough"
what do you want all the little nows
to add up to?

And how wonderful do you want this little
now
to be,
even on a computer,
which we go to...

to communicate?
listen?
learn?
avoid?
find?
amuse?
distract?

practice being present?

all sorts of possibilities
are there not.

????

and what is a life for?

well,
you decide,
what would you like your life to be for?

good

Signing off and on the way to Orcas for the week of July 25-July 3

today is a bit like winter

In Austin Texas

many of the days in October and November have been what we'd call a fine summer day on Orcas Island,
except there isn't that moist ocean salt water feeling in the background,

and that green lushness
nor the blackberry apple abundance all around

People in Austin could grow
lots of fruit and greens,
so far I haven't seen much.

Could put their clothes out in
the dry heat.
the old solar clothes dryer, aka clothesline
Haven't seen much.

Oh, well. There are cars and lots of freeways
and some amazing people
trying to find God, or great Spirit
or community
or dance heaven nirvana
or love
or their real work

in other words
it's just like any place
else
where real people
haven't given up
on the miracle of being human
beings

alive

it's good
Austin
is good

and from Thanksgiving on
with two very different,
equally interesting amazing parties
one full of love
the other full of creativity fueled by the
herb of aging hippie choice

good parties
and the weather dropped
and since then
real cool in the evening
not endless balmy

this isn't southern California
after all

harsh soil
sweet smell in the air
even if not ocean
too many roads, people
it's a magnet, a southern success

the deer look unhealthy
the people are beautiful
the waters are huge
and plentiful

interesting
interesting

and tomorrow I'm back to California
for 9 more days of training in the Anat Baniel Method

that'll take me to 209 days of training

after that, I hope to start being support staff
in March

so California, here I come,
back to visit Sonoma
and Wenonah

and Brendan

and a whole other cast of characters

interesting
interesting
to be making what seems like 3 homes

good

118: Happiness, a sexy possibility

Happiness is not a sin

Somewhere along the line, many of us got in trouble when we were young and enjoying life more than the worn out and weary adults around us and they scolded and yelled or frowned or looked wounded or some darned thing to convey guilt to us about our joy.

And we might have elements of that training still left.

And then again, in various churches and weird interpretations of the Bible, almost anything enjoyable can come up “bad,” be it dancing, card playing, being lazy (surely not the only way to live, laziness, but without at least a bit every day it’s almost as if life is worth living), and especially the big bad “fornication,” which, delightfully, is an F word.

Leaving aside all the complications that sex can create in people’s lives by being confused with approval, or being used for manipulation, or driving people crazy because of dependency, how can we go about today as if we were as happy as if we were having wonderful sex?

This can be if we are with someone on not, are having good sex, or bad, or none.

Just allowing and cultivating that orgasmic and post orgasmic feeling of satisfaction and peace and fullness.

Let’s explore a day as if happiness were the opposite of sin, as if it were the underlying current of who we really are.

70: Plenty, the simple version

Of what do we have plenty?

Plenty of breath.

Plenty of now.

Plenty of awareness.

Take a feeling of plenty into today in these three areas: breath, now, awareness.

We can always be aware of our toes or our nose or our ???

We can always be aware that we have awareness.

When we lose awareness we can come back to Now, and realize that we have awareness again and we can savor the now.

That’s it today: plenty of now.

Plenty of breath.

Plenty of awareness.
