Feeling good even though part of you feels bad

Paintings by yours truly
Fun to be "not yet good" at something
lots of learning for now, and tomorrow and so on
You could be "broken hearted," but what if you paid
attention to your feet feeling good,
and made a list of 100 things for which you were grateful

You could have 'too much' in your belly
and realize:
hey, a chance to slow down, and
take a walk
and sense my brething
and see what happens to me moving
in ways that remind me of places besides the belly
in me
that are enjoyable

and right now,
sweet reader,
what is enjoyable in you?

as a sensation?

As a feeling?

What gratitudes are lurking,
and can you jot down ten?

The warm sweet outside air
the miracle of this computer stuff
tea that I made for myself
the tai chi I'm inventing
Love returning
the summer coming on
my amazing spine holding up my amazing head
the skills I have in the world of Neurological Upgrading
the difference I can make in people's lives
the invention of moving toward of a Process of transformation
moving with ease
feeling happy almost at will

eating too much
so I'll have something to write about

what's your awareness list
or
your gratitude list
and
have you been outdoors in
the last several hours.

I haven't and intend to once this is done
and three
(and no more than three)
emails are rewritten

I'm grateful that I have this skill
and often remember it,
being intuitively aware
when "enough is enough"

and knowing when "enough is enough"
on the computer
is a grand, sweet skill

necessary I do believe
to the survival of the species

if we forget to walk
and forget to love nature

we are doomed

my opinion,
and I'm happy now
the species can be doomed
or not

to be present is to be happy

.............

enough is enough here..

DAY FOURTEEN: REST AND GLORY ON THE 7TH DAY

There are two types of prayer: prayers of thanksgiving and praise for the glory of this life, this chance at the miracle of being alive, even the glory of our so called “troubles.” And there are prayers asking for help out of your troubles.

Take some time to pray today.

Many times, take a little bit of time.

Ask for what you want, if you want to make that kind of prayer. Don’t worry or demand, but ask for health, or ease for yourself or another.

And alternate the asking prayers with short happy grateful thanksgiving prayers. You can sing about this, if you want, or write a poem or a song.

Doesn’t matter.

A little thanksgiving goes a long away.

And do this a lot, in little one or two minute doses all day.

81: Liking and like and "what are we like?"

You are what you like. (sort of)

Make a list of what you like in life.

Go slowly, and write down what comes to you, one thing or place or person or activity at a time.

As you write each liked aspect of your life, do three things:

1) Remember as fully and completely that activity or thing or person. Say, you like flowers. Go out and look at some flowers, or have a memory of some flowers you really enjoyed looking at and being around.

2) Notice and savor what feels good inside you when you think about the liked aspects of your life. Notice and savor where it is in you that you have this feeling. In you can means where actually you feel good in your body when you remember and put attention on this liked aspect. In you can also mean coming to a sense of how this liking and enjoying brings you to a place of being present and something like “at one” with the liked aspect. Don’t think or analyze any of this, just get a sense of the inside and friendly affects of your liking.

3) Come to something like gratitude for this aspect of you life.

Now, the list can go on and on, and it doesn’t have to be divided up in any particular way. You could like looking at beautiful flowers. You could like pulling weeds. You could like digging in the earth. You could like figuring out irrigations systems. Instead of just putting down “gardening” to cover all these different delights, write the individual aspects down, and savor each and every one.

This list can be five things you like, or fifty. Or a hundred. Take your time. You don’t have to do this all in one sitting. Likely, you will be inspired to go out and look at flowers, or take photographs, or listen to this song or that, or write this song or sing that song, or talk to this person, or write that one.

That’s all fine.

And keep going throughout the day making a list of what you like.

And, as the list progresses, notice and savor how this list of what you like begins to paint a rather broad, and still amazingly accurate picture, of what you are like.

What you like.

What you are like.

Interesting areas to notice and savor and explore.

Have a good day paying attention to what you like and what you are like, and how one informs the other.

Day Twenty-Six: Gratitude without "have to"

DAY TWENTY-SIX
The gratitude thing, without “have to”

On Thanksgiving, and any other day of the year we want to feel more happy and clear in our lives we can be grateful. I will contend later that this gratitude is a side benefit, a fall out of being present and of doing the Work of Byron Katie. Which is to say, once we let go of our commitment to our unhappiness, and once we come out of the words that pull us away from the present, we are home to our “real” selves, and those “real” selves cannot help but be happy and grateful.

Good.

Be that as it may, today let’s just play in these two fields, the field of Now, and the field of gratitude. This can make life a simple minded thing, but a very happy simple minded thing.

When we sit on the toilet, be there with that and be grateful for the toilet, or our ability to get rid of that stuff, or for the food we ate, or the body that knows how to do what it does, or for our bathroom or whatever one we are in.

When we walk down a street, notice now and our feet, and be grateful for the ability to walk, and our two legs and our eyes that can see and what we are seeing and what we are hearing and the ability to know what we are doing now and the gift/ miracle of awareness and our breathing, and so on.

When we read this book be grateful for knowing how to read, and sensing our body, and the idea of sensing while we read and the playing around with attention we can do when we come back to sensing and our breathing and these ideas and anything else you want to be grateful for.

If you want to write down a gratitude list, cool, and see if you can be aware of your hand and eyes and breathing as you write down the words and the sensation in your chest. Good.
