Day Thirty-four: studying happy and unhappy


DAY THIRTY-FOUR:: LESS IS MORE
Studying Happiness

Sometimes we are happy.

Sometimes we aren’t.

What if happiness were more or less our birthright, and when we are unhappy, we have a grand and glorious chance to learn just how we take away ourselves from our birthright?

To learn: How do we throw away our happiness?


So today, make a study: when are you happy?

And: When are you unhappy?


Notice three things: What kind of thoughts you are having when happy and unhappy?

And: What is going on in your body in times of happiness and times of unhappiness?

And: Are you present when you are happy and are you present when you are unhappy?


Actually, notice four things: When you discover yourself unhappy, do you get more unhappy about this, or do you get curious?


So have fun, and don’t be too serious, but be more than a bit honest: when are we happy, when are we unhappy? What are happy thoughts, what are unhappy making thoughts? How is our body when we are happy?

How is it when we are unhappy?


And, hey, here’s a good place to discover: if we are “unhappy,” and don’t want to struggle for happiness, and don’t want to nag and demand ofourselves that we shift in an instant, what place can we exist which is neither happy, nor unhappy? Where can we find a neutral place from which to make a new stance in our day, or in our life?

This funny thing, God

roses


God is a word,
sending some people to
war

we don't have
to be like
that,
do we?

God can be your smile
or your frown

God can be the hot day
or the "perfect" weather

God can be the way
I realize how
dumb I've been sometimes
or
how
brilliant others.

God can be you
when you bother me,
and I realize,
hey, the botherment
(you heard the word here, first,
maybe)
is in me
and then I can
remember
to love you
just the way you are imperfectly
you...

And hey,
while I'm at it,
why not treat myself
just as well?

Ah, God,
wouldn't that be
nice?

Yes,
and

the smile on waking
up
to such ease
grace
and
love
is another way
that God
is
in
our lives
...

Oh,well
what are you going to do
if today isn't a struggle

And God
just seems to be leaking out
of every little this
and that?

Lose Weight, Get Smarter, Be Happier



Lose Weight:

eat mainly stuff with lots of
water in it:
veggies and fruits
uncooked

eat high quality meat
that has been range feed
or is wild
and is organic

maybe cook
it
maybe not


don't eat after six
in the evening

better
don't eat after five
in the evening

no fat after five

no flour
no sugar
no junk


okay:
how to get smarter:
learn five new ways
to do everything
you do:

come from sitting to standing
roll over
walk
talk
listen
write
worry
smile
eat
brush your teeth
and
so
on





okay
how to be happy:

breathe
learn to be present
spend time outdoors
slow down
love more
love bothersome people
love the ungood side of yourself
love the ungood side of others
laugh at yourself

meditate
meditate
all the time

don't do a "serious"
and/or "try hard" meditation

do something like
yoga
or
dance
or
wiggle fun moving

don't do "do it right"
yoga, dance, wiggle fun moving

learn to wake
up
to the habits in your moving
and
do
something
anything
else

learn to forgive
(the Work of Byron Katie
will take care of that.
i'll hire out to do that,
or you can do on your own)

we are real
