Yesterday is gone, one more healing game

YESTERDAY IS GONE

[One of the great glories of the past: It is over.]

Think of an argument or a disagreement you have about something your partner, even your imaginary partner, did in the past.
Look at them, or imagine them in the present.
Feel, breathe, sense, aware your world in the present.
Then go back to the “story” about how the past “should have been different.”
Then come back to the present.

Look at them.
Say this: “I can go into the past and make myself….(sad, unhappy, angry, etc, you fill in the blank) with this story {{{ gibberish, gibberish, gibberish}}}. Or I can be present and notice this…..(fill in the blank with the present).”

Go back and forth on this for ten to twenty minutes.
Feel the calming wonderful peace of the now.
Good.

98: Getting it Straight

Getting it straight: we don’t run the show

Think of someone who has done you some “wrong.” In the past.

It is over.

Think of the statistical probability of your changing what they did in the past.

Think now, in a wishing and wanting and even whining sort of way, how “it” should have been different, how they should have been different, how Reality should have been different.

Wish/ want/ whine really hard.

Notice if anything has changed about the past.

Notice (as per question #3 in the Katie work, our reactions when we attach to the belief) how all that wishing and wanting the past to be different has made us feel.

Now, think of the same situation, as if it is over. As if we have zero chance of changing it. Consider not thinking about wanting the past to be different. Do this and bring your attention back to now, which is….? Sense, look, listen.

Feel how free this feels.

Notice how you can do something in the present, stand up, sit down, pay attention to breathing, sing a song, go for a walk.

And notice how all these things might be totally neglected if you are back trying to “fix” the unchanging past.

So, here’s today’s game: when the “past should have been different” thoughts come up, stop and realize it. Maybe even write them down. And then grunt and groan and strain and see if the past changes. If not, come on back to the present and see what is here for you.

Right now.

Exulting the Changing Seasons

bee on flower

Exulting the Changing Seasons

today is cool in the morning
it was cold last night
warm to almost hot yesterday

ah, fall,
falling open into our lives

change
of leaves
of temperature
of our lives
if you are me,
and the sweetie
and I are going to travel apart

so sad.
no,
joking,
so sweet.

is fall sad,
or an awakening
into newness

each day is that:
sad because yesterday
is totally, irrevocably gone

or a sweet blast of now:
new to each moment
we are awake to the moment

good

Want to Hear About my Rough Childhood ? ( Yawn)

flower hibiscus
Flower outside house of imperfect Mom

elementary playground
Playground of school I went to for about half a year

CHRIS ON BENCH
One more imperfect parent

One of the one hundred
percent
(100%)
great losing beats
of all time

is to
wish
want
demand

that the past have been different.

'Twas what it was.

One in a zillion
people
have perfect
parents

the rest of us
have this or that which
could
have been
better

and
the crummy parts
are the heart love
muscle
building
parts

because
as Jesus said:
anyone can love someone who's
treating
you
super duper well

so
anyway...

good parents
okay parents
lousy parents

it's all a chance to
love
various people
for what they
were
and
not some ideal
of how they should have
been

and
wouldn't
that be a nice
model
for how
to love
ourselves?

Yes.

Losing Bets, hot day, ha ha

one of the great losing
bets is this:

that the past
"should have"
been different

maybe "should have"
can be clung to
as a concept with which
to torture ourselves

but what's the reality
of the past??

the past is stuck
finished
and complete

we can change its effects
we can imagine a different way
of reacting than we did
but
undoing
the past:

huge losing bet

and another
huge
losing bet:

that the weather
"should" be different

if
"it's"
hot,
as it appear to be
now
hot wind
hot night
hot day
la
la

wanting it different
complaining that it should be different
demanding to God
or each other that it "should" be different....

another grand
losing
bet

la
la
